Position Open: Technical Manager

Environmental Health Safety (EHS Consultancy) Ltd is a private company registered under the Companies Act (Chapter 386 of the laws of Kenya). To carry on the business of health development such as to provide health related hazardous (chemical, radioactive and biological agents) management and technical consultancy services which include: provision of training and consultancy on the issues of safety in the biological, radiation, workplace, fire, ergonomics and occupational health, waste  disposal; development of policy manual and project proposals on health and environmental issues, Health services management; professional and personal matters, coaching and mentoring people on life skills.  We   also provide products, equipment and facility, certification/accreditation based on international Standards Organization (ISO), GLP, GMP which are quality systems. EHS Consultancy Ltd is looking for an experienced professional to head the Technical Division and who can develop innovative solutions that solve complex business problems and achieve real, measurable results.

I     Job Summary

This position is directly responsible for meeting company goals. The Manager will have a thorough understanding of EHS Consultancy Ltd and be able to support training and  consultancy programmes.

II   Essential Duties and Responsibilities

♦  Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Life Sciences (such as Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Biotechnology)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other minor duties may be assigned.  These include:

♦  Responsible for overseeing all strategies and vision of EHS Consultancy ltd.

♦  Co-ordinate and manage the various Services (that include but not limited to: Consultancy and Training on Fire Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Impact and Audit Assessments (EIA/EA), Occupational Health and Safety, Good Laboratory-Clinical-Manufacturing-Practices, Policy Development and Quality Management Systems (TQM and ISO series), and of the Company by ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to, in accordance with laid down Company protocols and standards, national as well as other Kenyan and internationally accepted Regulations and standards.

♦  Execute the responsibilities of a company Technical director according to lawful and ethical standards, as referenced in company policies, code of practice and regulations.

♦  Monitor measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales.

♦  Contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance in co-optation with the executive team.

♦  Ensure activities meet with and integrate with company requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.

♦  Ensure that staff is regularly updated on training requirements.

♦  Inspecting and monitoring for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.

♦  Assembles teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules and determines and acquires resources needed.

♦  Develops and maintains company and project plans, budgets and prepares and analyzes project performance reports.

III   Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees.  This includes directing and supervision of other employees. 

IV   Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

      A. Education and Experience

♦  Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Life Sciences (such as Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Biotechnology)

♦  A Master’s degree will be an added advantage

♦  Experience: Two years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

     B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Relevant certificates to Biosafety, Chemical safety, Environment e.g. EIA/EA, OSH

   C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Project planning, budgeting, Regulatory knowledge, contract management, and general EHS and related industry knowledge required.
